From kim.rose at vpri.org Tue Jul 1 18:34:13 2008 From: kim.rose at vpri.org (Kim Rose) Date: Wed Jul 2 01:47:17 2008 Subject: [Squeakland] Improving squeakland.org Message-ID: Greetings, Squeaklanders - As you know we've been working on improving the Squeakland website, adding new content, and preparing an "olpc-compatible" version/ download for those of you on platforms other than the "XO" as well as the "XO". On the new site we want to showcase YOU -- the Etoy community -- and provide pointers and links to as many external websites featuring Squeak ETOYS from as many parts of the world as possible. Many of your sites are already featured on our current site, but some may be outdated and we know there are more that we are unaware of that contain valuable content for newcomers to Etoys, etc. If you are involved in an Etoys community that has a website, please send us the url and one or two sentences we can use to describe your community (i.e., "we are part of a University in XXcountry investigating how Etoys might be used in teaching colleges for math/ science education" or "We are a community of users in Korea who....." (you get the idea.) We really want to create a clearinghouse/central location for Etoys that can continue to grow and where Etoy users can share ideas, projects, curricula, their stories, their local events, participation in conferences, etc., etc. We look forward to hearing from you and including your site on the new Squeakland.org. We hope you are enjoying your summer -- wherever you are! best regards, Kim From p.a.dreyfuss at excite.com Wed Jul 2 03:06:51 2008 From: p.a.dreyfuss at excite.com (p.a.dreyfuss@excite.com) Date: Thu Jul 3 11:19:51 2008 Subject: [Squeakland] Improving squeakland.org Message-ID: <20080702060651.31429@web011.roc2.bluetie.com> SGksCkhlcmUgYXJlIHNvbWUgVVJMLgpJbiBGcmVuY2gKClRoZSBlZHVjYXRpb25hbCBwYXJ0IG9m ICB0aGUgRnJlbmNoIHNwZWFraW5nIFNxdWVhayBjb21tdW5pdHkuCgpodHRwOi8vY29tbXVuaXR5 Lm9mc2V0Lm9yZy9pbmRleC5waHAvU3F1ZWFrX0VkdWNhdGlvbgoKQXJ0IGFuZCBTcXVlYWsuIEFu IGluaXRpYXRpb24gdG8gU3F1ZWFrICBFdG95cyB1c2luZyB2aXN1YWwgYXJ0cyBwcm9qZWN0cywg Rm9yIG5vbiBGcmVuY2ggU3BlYWtpbmcsIHBpY3R1cmVzIGFuZCBwbGF5aW5nIHdpdGggcHJvamVj dHMgYXJlIHdvcnRod2hpbGUgIGZvciBldmVyeWJvZHkuCgpodHRwOi8vY29tbXVuaXR5Lm9mc2V0 Lm9yZy9pbmRleC5waHAvQXJ0X2V0X1NxdWVhayAKClRoZSBzdXBlcnN3aWtpIG9mIHRoZSBGcmVu Y2ggY29tbXVuaXR5LCB3aXRoIHByb2plY3RzIHRvIGRvd25sb2FkLgouCmh0dHA6Ly9zd2lraS5v ZnNldC5vcmc6ODAwMC9zdXBlci9nYWxsZXJ5CgpVc2Ugb2YgU3F1ZWFrIGZvciBNYXRocy4KaHR0 cDovL2NvbW11bml0eS5vZnNldC5vcmcvd2lraS9NYXRoJUMzJUE5bWF0aXF1ZXMKCkFjdGl2ZSBs YWJlbHMgYSBwcm9ncmFtbWluZyBzeXN0ZW0gZm9yIGJlZ2lubmVycyBlYXNpZXIgdGhhbiB2LXRv eXMuICAoRW5nbGlzaCB2ZXJzaW9uIGlzIGNvbWluZykuCmh0dHA6Ly9jb21tdW5pdHkub2ZzZXQu b3JnL2luZGV4LnBocC9FdGlxdWV0dGVzX2FjdGl2ZXMKCgpJbiBFbmdsaXNoOgoKVi10b3lzIElu dGVybmF0aW9uYWwgcGFnZS4gKFYtdG95cyBmb3IgT0xQQykuIEEgdmlzdWFsIHByb2dyYW1taW5n IHN5c3RlbSBmb3IgRXRveXMuCgpodHRwOi8vY29tbXVuaXR5Lm9mc2V0Lm9yZy9pbmRleC5waHAv Vi10b3lzX2ludGVybmF0aW9uYWwKCkJlc3QgUmVnYXJkcy4KCgotLS0tLU9yaWdpbmFsIE1lc3Nh Z2UtLS0tLQpGcm9tOiAiS2ltIFJvc2UiIFtraW0ucm9zZUB2cHJpLm9yZ10KRGF0ZTogMDcvMDEv MjAwOCAwNjozNCBQTQpUbzogIlNxdWVha2xhbmQub3JnIG1haWxpbmcgbGlzdCIgPHNxdWVha2xh bmRAc3F1ZWFrbGFuZC5vcmc+ClN1YmplY3Q6IFJlOiBbU3F1ZWFrbGFuZF0gSW1wcm92aW5nIHNx dWVha2xhbmQub3JnCgpOb3RlOiBPcmlnaW5hbCBtZXNzYWdlIHNlbnQgYXMgYXR0YWNobWVudAot LS0tLS0tLS0tLS0tLSBuZXh0IHBhcnQgLS0tLS0tLS0tLS0tLS0KQW4gZW1iZWRkZWQgbWVzc2Fn ZSB3YXMgc2NydWJiZWQuLi4KRnJvbTogS2ltIFJvc2UgPGtpbS5yb3NlQHZwcmkub3JnPgpTdWJq ZWN0OiBbU3F1ZWFrbGFuZF0gSW1wcm92aW5nIHNxdWVha2xhbmQub3JnCkRhdGU6IFR1ZSwgMSBK dWwgMjAwOCAxODozNDoxMyAtMDcwMApTaXplOiA1Njk4ClVybDogaHR0cDovL3NxdWVha2xhbmQu b3JnL3BpcGVybWFpbC9zcXVlYWtsYW5kL2F0dGFjaG1lbnRzLzIwMDgwNzAyLzQ5YTg4MGQxLzBy aWdpbmFsX21lc3NhZ2UuZW1sCg== From kim.rose at vpri.org Wed Jul 2 06:25:12 2008 From: kim.rose at vpri.org (Kim Rose) Date: Thu Jul 3 11:19:51 2008 Subject: [Squeakland] Improving squeakland.org In-Reply-To: <20080702060651.31429@web011.roc2.bluetie.com> References: <20080702060651.31429@web011.roc2.bluetie.com> Message-ID: <0D91F6E3-B23D-4019-B5E5-6116C6FDB794@vpri.org> Thank you so much, Pierre Andre! best regards, Kim On Jul 2, 2008, at 3:06 AM, p.a.dreyfuss@excite.com wrote: > Hi, > Here are some URL. > In French > > The educational part of the French speaking Squeak community. > > http://community.ofset.org/index.php/Squeak_Education > > Art and Squeak. Say 30-60 seconds per clip with each clip covering one specific concept - hollow shapes, solid shapes, gradients and so on. These clips will appeal to children across the world. Why produce tutorials in text and translate them into jillion languages when art can convey so much in so little space? C5-09 Kyoto Japan January 19-22, 2009 Message-ID: <6D0EBA59-F46E-4F53-991B-A42921AE18E8@vpri.org> Call for Papers - C5-09 The Seventh International Conference on Creating, Connecting and Collaborating through Computing (C5 2009) January 19-22, 2009 Kyoto, Japan http://www.cm.is.ritsumei.ac.jp/c5-09/ Computers, networks, and other forms of technology are now pervasive in our information-based society. However, most users still function as passive consumers of technology. To evolve into a true knowledge society, it is critical that we transform computer-based human activities to engage users in the active process of creating, connecting, and collaborating together. The C5 conference is for researchers, technology developers, educators, and technology users who are concerned about developing and enabling human-oriented creation, connection, and collaboration processes. C5 is an international forum for presenting ongoing work as well as new work currently under development and for discussing future needs and directions in creative computing and multimedia authoring environments. We welcome equally the submission of technical papers and practitioner/experience reports for paper presentations. In addition, we have added workshops to the conference and are now soliciting proposals fro interactive workshops. Hosted in Japan, this conference builds on the successes and high standards held by previous C5 conferences: 2003-2005, 2007 in Kyoto (Japan), 2006 in Berkeley (USA), 2008 in Poitiers (France). Topics of Interest Topics of interest include but are not limited to: Development and applications of collaboration tools and environments User collaboration using 3D, multimedia, and animation objects Technologies for creating educational environments Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) and Technology- Enabled Learning (TEL) Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW), distributed work, and virtual teaming Hybrid technology activities, such as scientific experiments, instrumentations, participatory design (PD) or simulations , robots, and game playing Development of applications/content for non-traditional learning and support environments, including mentoring, role-playing, peer-to- peer, "teacherless" environments, low-cost and sustainable technologies (e.g. $100 laptop), and gerontechnology applications, among others. Applications and tools for education from K-12 through higher education, system design by children, digital library and search environment for children Conference sessions will include invited talks, including Dr. Alan Kay (Viewpoints Research Institute), recipient of the 2003 ACM Turing Award, Dr. Allison Druin, Human-Computer Interaction Lab, University of Maryland, as well as formal paper presentations, hands-on workshops, informal "un-conference" and "lightning" sessions and social and sightseeing events.
